Is art discovered or created? For Andy Hammerstein, painting is a form of revelation that leads to creation. Or at least that’s what I took from this conversation! Brushing paints onto canvas is the beginning of expressing the experience of seeing the world as it is revealed, especially In nature. But that doesn’t always mean the woods. Human habitat is also a natural setting for Andy’s work. Filtered through a haze of emotion, Andy’s world often appears just out of focus. That wobbly quality reflects life’s beauty and the drama of uncertainty and tenuousness that permeates existence.
In this episode, we talk about the process of creating, society’s need for art, commodifying art, being an artist from a family of artists, and much more. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.
