In this episode, we have the good fortune to speak with Dr. Jane Martin, M.D. Maternal and Fetal Physician in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a physician specializing in high-risk pregnancies, Dr. Martin confronts the consequences of the Dobbs Decision daily in her practice. As of now, twenty-two states have restricted the rights of women to make healthcare choices about their families, their bodies, and their pregnancies. In Louisiana, drugs like misoprostol and mifepristone, used in a variety of cases, have been reclassified as Schedule IV drugs, complicating access to these drugs for doctors during complicated childbirths and women terminating pregnancies at home. Dr. Martin explains that these new laws and restrictions change how doctors and nurses talk with and treat their patients, partly because medical professionals are unclear about how authorities will prosecute these new laws.
Reproductive Rights are one of the issues that will decide this presidential election that is clear; what isn’t as apparent are the ramifications of these issues.
